1973 Z1

This is my first attempt at restoring a Z1. The bike is a 1973 that came from Seattle, WA. It and another one that looked just like it belonged to a Father and Son that rode together. I think the father did more riding though because I have the father's bike and a very good friend of mine named Paul Walker from the UK had the son's. We bought these as a pair. Mine has over 100,000 miles on it and the son's has a little over 10,000. When these bikes arrived, they both had been sitting for some time. I put a battery on one then the other and both fired up and ran. After riding both to make sure everything was fine with the engines and transmissions, I parked the son's and brought the fathers, mine into the shop.

I really should finish one project before starting another but in doing these bikes, sometimes there are delays in waiting for parts or having parts painted or machine work done and since I am waiting on the motor work on my H2 at the moment, I decided to start this one.

Now I knew I was going to do one of these bikes so I have been gathering parts for six months. I had about half of the NOS parts before I even owned the motorcycle.

The bike was totaly dismantled down to the last nut and bolt. Most frame parts have been blasted and are ready for powder coating and the frame is being sent out to paint this weekend. While that is being done, the front lower legs have been sent to be polished. I have most of the front end NOS but untill I can find a set of NOS lower legs, those parts will have to sit

I have a NOS set of pipes, a NOS body kit and emblems, most of the NOS engine covers, cables, gauges and cups, seat, grab rail and fenders, head light, handle bar controls, pegs, wheels, air box and filter, turn signals, tail light, handle bars and mounts, and some of the electrical parts, plus a lot of the chrome nuts and bolts.
WOOHOOOO!!!! I got lucky and a NOS complete front end came along. Still waiting for the NOs left lower leg to complete the other front end but I can use it on my 74 or my 75 as they both need the front ends done.
Motor is completed and ready to set in and all the other parts are here. All I need now is my frame back. My painter has been busy and hasn't had a chance to finish my frame but as soon as he does, this project shpuld move right along. I will post pics as I start the assembly. I can't wait!!!
